Lyngenløftet is the urban development plan for Lyngseidet, a small coastal town in Northern Norway. The project, led by Arkitektgruppen Cubus, aims to strengthen the town's identity and create a more vibrant and accessible centre through a series of coordinated sub-projects and a long-term development strategy.I had the privilege of accompanying the team throughout several stages of this process, contributing visual material and 3D work that supported design exploration, stakeholder dialogue, and public communication.

Contributions

The initial task was to build a comprehensive 3D model of the existing situation in Lyngseidet. This involved extensive data collection and processing — combining SOSI data, satellite imagery, and topographic information into a cohesive digital model. Based on this foundation, I developed visualisations and an animated film that presented the overall development plan and illustrated the proposed transformations of the town centre.

The model went through many iterations over several years as the plan evolved. Along the way, I contributed to the ongoing design dialogue by producing updated imagery and integrating feedback from the architects and planners. One small but well-received refinement was the introduction of wood textures in the base model, which helped give the visual material a warmer, more open and conceptual feel — a living canvas for discussion rather than a finished object.

Beyond the main urban model, I also contributed to smaller projects within the plan, particularly those developed by landscape architect Axel Sømme and designer Truls Indrearne. These included a distinctive bicycle shelter — now a local favourite and popular photo spot — and the LYNGEN sign, which after many design iterations was finally realised as a permanent landmark and visual identity for the town.

Throughout the project, I delivered a wide range of material, including the animation of the urban development plan, visualisations, technical drawings, and 3D assets used in both internal design work and public presentations. The visual content helped communicate the long-term vision in an engaging and accessible way, supporting both the professional process and local community engagement. One of the key factors to the success of the visuals was going the extra mile to expand their scope beyond the confines of the SOSI data set and to include the mountains both around Lyngseidet and across the fjord as well as populating them with trees. This was essential to give a sense of place and context to the proposed developments.
